Lodging in northern California

It´s fairly easy to find a motel in the larger communities in northern California. And easier still in cities.And it´s
a lot cheaper than cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. But don´t expect to find even
a third of the motels on the internet since most are small family owned businesses. It can be good idea to check
out the locations of the large chains such as Motel6, Super 8, Travelodge and Econolodge on the web in advance
(or more upscaled an expensive if you prefer that), and just drive around and have the smaller off-the-web
establishments as complementary alternatives. I usually prefer the smaller, more personal, motels, which aren´t
equipped with the same kinds of beds, soaps and furniture. But the large chains are good too, and it´s easy to
spend nights for only 40-50 US dollars.

I´ve never bothered to make a reservation since I travel after a broad plan but make constant improvisations and
changes (and mostly camp in a tent). When I want to stay in a motel to load the camera batteries and rinse the
neck a little after a few nights in a tent, I just check in at a motel in the afternoon at 4-5 PM and I have
always got a room.

Campfire programs offered. No reservations. First come - first served. Fire pits, chemical toilets, and picnic area with grills provided. Check at the Redwood Information Center just north of this area for interpretive programs. Vehicles are $10.00 per night; bicyclists and hikers are $3.00 per person per night. No reservations.
